Gliding through Philadelphia is the most exciting way to tour one of the oldest cities in the United States. Riding the Segway Human Transporter, I Glide Tours will allow visitors to glide past some of Philadelphia's most memorable sites, such as: The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Boathouse Row and Fairmount Park.

The 2 1/2 hour escorted tour begins with a hands-on training session, ample time to become comfortable riding the Segway HT. Tours of up to 9 gliders will launch from Eakin's Oval, just across the street from the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

What is the Segway Human Transporter (HT)?

The Segway Human Transporter (HT) is the first self-balancing, electric-powered transportation device. With dimensions no larger than the average adult body and the ability to emulate human balance, the Segway HT uses the same space as a pedestrian, and can go wherever a person can walk. The Segway HT allows people at home and at work to go farther and move more quickly.

How does the Segway HT work?

This breakthrough technology termed "dynamic stabilization," is the essence of the Segway HT. Dynamic stabilization enables the Segway HT to work seamlessly with the body's movements. Gyroscopes and tilt sensors in the unit monitor a rider's center of gravity at about 100 times a second. When the rider leans slightly forward, the Segway HT moves forward. When the rider leans slightly back, the Segway HT moves backward.

How do I learn to ride a Segway HT?

All customers are required to take a 20-30 minute hands - on training session to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Riders are trained on Segway HT operation and emergency stops. All riders are required to wear a helmet and safety vest.

How safe is the Segway HT?

The utmost care and research has gone into ensuring that the Segway HT is safe. The Segwa HT's balancing technology is truly revolutionary and provides an exceptional riding experience. The Segway HT has redundant systems and sophisticated alerts built into its design, and many thousands of hours of use have demonstrated that the Segway HT is safe when used appropriately. It is important that Segway HT riders understand their responsibility to ride safely. Proper skill level and understanding of the Segway HT prevents injuries caused by loss of control or misuse.

Who can ride the Segway HT?

Although riding a Segway HT is relatively easy, we do require that all riders be at least 13 years of age (An adult or guardian must accompany children under 18). Also, riders should have the ability to make motions such as climbing and descending stairs without assistance. The Segway HT is not appropriate for those weighing under 100 pounds or over 285 pounds.

What do I wear on the tour?

We want you to enjoy your Segway HT experience and suggest you wear comfortable clothes and shoes. I Glide will provide state of the art wireless headsets, helmets and safety vests. The Segways HT are equipped with small bags for cameras and small purses. You may wish to wear sunscreen on sunny days, and bring rain gear and/or warm clothing for days that are looking like it might rain or will be cool. For really hot days, I Glide suggests bringing along a bottle of water.

This tour must be booked at least 24 hours in advance of your travel date. Your confirmation for this product will be received within 12- 24 hours subject to availability.

Cancellation and No Show Policy

Cancellations within 24 hours of the tour are charged in full. Cancellations prior to 24 hours are charged a minimum $10.00 per person administration fee. We charge for NO SHOWS. No Shows on tour dates are charged 100%. Some specific tours and activities have a higher cancellation fee due to the limited space available.

Recommended for all tours in PHILADELPHIA: Comfortable shoes, extra layer of warm clothing, hats, visors and sunglasses.
